last two times we have been there the seafood has been less than fresh 🙁

First off, kudos for adding the V and GF icons in the menu. However, I am less than thrilled by the new menu. Although I don’t keep strictly Kosher (then I will miss ALL of NYAJ), I do try to only eat things that _could_ be Kosher if prepared under rabbinical supervision. Therefore, all of the seafood, pork, etc. is out for me as well as items which mix meat and dairy. Compounding that, I am allergic to fish as well as being very sensitive to red pepper and onions. Thus, it seems that I am down to ONE ITEM on the new menu that I can try: the broccoli rabe pesto pasta. Hopefully that doesn’t have red pepper in it like the Farmer’s Market Flatbread.

Hopefully over time we will start seeing more vegetarian friendly selections. BTW, I know that NYAJ is a scratch kitchen and various modifications can be requested but I’ve also read many places that one should not ask the chef to modify their recipes since they’ve already invested time in perfecting them and changes might end up producing in sub-par results.

    Thanks for listening…

Add animal free options please! Animal free = no meat/eggs/dairy or gelatin. I haven’t returned to NYAJ because there’s no entrees a vegan can order. Sad!

  • tikideluth

Order the flatbread with no cheese, the ramen in vegetable broth with no egg or pork, a salad without meat, cheese or eggs, or spaghetti with spinach, garlic and tomato in a white wine/olive oil sauce. Of course, there is always the veggie burger or a veg-only pizza, too. There you have it! Not sad at all!

My dinner last night was excellent, the seafood was delicious and the pasta was great. Our server was excellent. I will be back. Love the new menu.

  • So happy to hear it! We’ll be ready with more of our new menu items on your next visit. 🙂

  • Hi Jeff- Mind emailing us at guestrelations@nyajoes.com? Jimmie wants to talk over this a bit more with you.

  • Hi There – Mind emailing us at guestrelations@nyajoes.com to tell us more about your experience with the seafood?

  • Chris P.

I’m fairly certain that their pasta is still made with eggs. Also, the veggie burger is not vegan.

I haven’t returned to NYAJ either because of the same reason.

!! I will forever mourn the loss of your rosemary scallops with cous cous! It was the perfect recipe!

The Scallops with choice of two sides is an awesome dinner. The New Bedford Scallops Melange, great, WITHOUT THE MELANGE …

  • Kathy Phillips

There are several restaurants in Somerville and Cambridge exclusively for vegetarians and vegans. I’m sorry, but I think vegans shouldn’t put undue burdens on general purpose, middle market restaurants. Smaller, single-purpose restaurants should be your target.
