Behind every great restaurant is a team of hardworking employees who make any restaurant experience that much more enjoyable.

At Not Your Average Joe’s, we believe in recognizing everyone, from what we call “the heart of the house”, which is our chefs, prep cooks, dishwashers, bakers & more, to the people who make our corporate headquarters go. This month for our Staff Highlight we wanted to introduce two team members from the Front of House, our hosts & servers. Meet Carrie and Eric from our Glen Mills location to see what they have to say about working at Joe’s!

Meet Eric Maier

Location: Glen Mills, Pennsylvania

How long have you been with the company? 1.5 years and counting

What is your position within the company? Host/ Supervisor

Describe your day to day at Joe’s?

EM: My day consists of interacting with the guests as a host. Giving the best possible first impression and making it count.

What do you enjoy most about the company?

EM: I very much enjoy the staff that I get to work with on a day to day basis.  Also, the laid back, but professional way we all go about our jobs.

What is your favorite entree on the menu?

EM: I really enjoy the Mustard Crusted Chicken. It’s super tasty!

When not at work, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

EM: In my free time I love collecting antiques and listening to my vinyl records.

Fun fact about yourself?

EM: I’ve worked in restaurants in three separate states, one of which was Colorado.

Since it is the holiday season, we must know!  What is your all-time favorite holiday song?

EM: My favorite holiday song would be “Frosty the Snowman”.  It’s a classic!

Meet Carrie Ariza

Location: Glen Mills, Pennsylvania

How long have you been with the company?

CA: I have been with Joe’s for a year and a half!

What led you to work for Not Your Average Joe’s?

CA: My best friend was working at Joe’s as a host at the time. One day she told me they were in need of some servers, so I decided to apply. I got the job and a month later my friend had to go away for school. I was worried I wouldn’t have any friends at work and fortunately was very wrong. Some of my co-workers are now some of my best friends.

What is your position within the company?

CA: I am a server!

Describe your day to day at Joe’s?

CA: I am the opening server the majority of the weekdays. So I usually get to work (always with a large coffee in hand) and set everything up for the day that the servers will need before the restaurant opens. I am usually at work for both lunch and dinner shifts, so I either work straight through or I’ll take a little break in between. For the dinner shift you can usually find me on the bread station for the rest of the night!

Favorite part about your job?

CA: The people! Not only do I love working with such genuinely nice and hardworking employees, but I also love serving the guests that come in. I love seeing regulars that come in and fill me in on what I’ve missed throughout their lives. I also enjoy when I get new guests in my section. Welcoming all new guests and giving them my recommendations is my absolute favorite.

What do you enjoy most about the company?

CA: I really respect Not Your Average Joe’s as a company for being so accommodating with allergies and dietary restrictions. The “Fit For You” menu has everything for common dietary restrictions which makes it very convenient for guests.

What is your favorite entree on the menu?

CA: To be completely honest, I chuckle every time I get asked this question. Almost everyone at Joe’s could tell you that I LOVE the Mona Lisa salad. I order it every day—I wish I was kidding. Between the breaded chicken, the creamy basil dressing, and the mozzarella balls, I can’t get enough!!!

When not at work, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

CA: I love hanging out with my family and friends.

Fun fact about yourself?

CA: A lot of people don’t know that I was born on Kodiak Island, Alaska!

Since it’s the holiday season, we must know! What is your all-time favorite holiday song and why?

CA: I would have to say “All I want for Christmas is You” because every time it comes on, I can’t help but to sing along.
