Can items on the Gluten Free menu be used on this promotion? ie- get the GF chicken carbonara instead of the regular?

    • Joe September 4, 2013 at 3:35 pm — Reply

      Hi Jenna,

Great question! Yes, you can absolutely substitute a GF version of the dishes offered for this special. We are always happy to accommodate any allergy restrictions, so just inform your server and our chef will work with you to create a great meal!

Hi–it would be nice to see more vegetarian options on your menu, especially on your specials. Nothing on the Winesday menu is vegetarian. It would be nice to have options. My husband is vegan and I do not believe he can eat anything on your menu, except for maybe a green salad which let’s face it, is not a very special dining out treat. So many restaurants are on the Gluten Free bandwagon but you will find that there is a higher percentage of people who are vegetarian than those who suffer from celiac disease.

In response to NYAJ about vegetarian options: You used to have many more vegetarian options than just pizza, veggie burger, or salad! I actually ordered something recently on your menu that was offered without shrimp as a lunch entree, and they brought it to me WITH shrimp, and then when I reminded the waiter that I didn’t want shrimp, it came back to me without, and after a few bites I could taste seafood and saw tiny bits of shrimp still in the dish. I’m not sure if they just took it out and gave it back to me, or if this dish is cooked with shrimp in the sauce, but it was really upsetting and made me sick even though I sent it back after only a few bites. I’m not sure if the NYAJ owner has changed, but this lack of understanding about what it means to be vegetarian when you used to be so vegetarian-friendly is a major let-down.

I agree! NYAJ definitely used to have more vegetarian options and my husband and I used to frequent our local NYAJ; but since my options on the menu became more and more scarce we have stopped going as often. Although I still love NYAJ, it is not so much for the food unfortunately, but because we enjoy the seasonal drink and beer specials. I’d love to see some vegetarian options on the menu that are just as creative as the other entree specials, and not just side orders of veggies and pasta.

          • Joe October 23, 2013 at 1:28 pm

            Hi Olivia,

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us. We completely understand your request and will take it into consideration for future menu rollouts. We don’t want anything standing between you and a great meal!

Yes, I would also like to see vegetarian options. And vegan options too! It would be nice to be able to get something off the menu instead of just a salad and a side of veggies. Can you investigate vegan sauces and create a rice and veggie dish with a terrific sauce?

Jumping on the Vegetarian bandwagon. It is true the menu used to be much more vegetarian friendly. You say you are taking this feedback into consideration but nothing has changed. I would love to go to Winesday but don’t bother since it is not worth it to me if I have to request something special to accommodate something that almost every other restaurant does by just having options in the menu. Would love to see some creative vegetarian specials.

I’m going to jump on the Vegan bandwagon here! The servers hate it when I have to customize menu items (“please leave the cheese off the veggie burger, or could the chef please make a pizza with lots of veggies and no chees,e or just sauté a bunch of veggies with garlic and olive oil and serve on top of pasta?”) And I’m not going to be paranoid and grill the servers about whether items are sautéed in butter, or if there’s cheese in the tomato sauce. Just one item in each menu category that’s labeled “vegan” would be such a treat! There are more of us every day. I was surprised to see other commenters with similar thoughts.

Your ethos about altering your ingredients and making it work for every customer is outstanding. I LOVE Winesdays and am so glad you are featuring this again! And I love that you include my favorite wine (Kendall Jackson Chardonnay) along with other nice wines. Once when my friend and I didn’t finish the bottle (can you believe it?), the server sealed it for us in a bag with the receipt in the bag so we could bring it home. Is that the practice in all your restaurants?

NYAJ is one of my favorit places to eat – great combination of casual but nice atmosphere and more upscale food offerings. You’re doing a great job – keep it up! (And no, I don’t work there. My only connection is as a customer!)

Love to eat at Joe’s, but would add my voice to those requesting a vegetarian dish be included when you do your promotions, and some thought given in menu planning for offering vegetarian versions of some of your excellent dishes. You could offer a substitute of tofu for chicken in many of your existing dishes. Also, perhaps some of your delicious specialty salads can be offered in an entre size with an accompanying side-dish of humus or some-such, so it becomes a meal. You should remember that if one member of a large party is vegetarian this could influence the choice of restaurant, with the party choosing somewhere else because of the lack of vegetarian options.

I moved from Massachusetts (after 10 years) to Texas last December. One of the things I miss most about Massachusetts is NYAJ’s. This was my hand’s down, favorite restaurant there. I keep trying to convince Steve Silverstein (the founder and CEO) to move farther (okay, much farther) south to keep me happy with the best food, the best service, and the best experience in casual dining. Alas, he has not made any plans to move further south than Virginia. Do you think we should start a write-in campaign???

I went to Not Your Average Joes for the first time recently. I loved how nice the staff was and I waited for half an hour but the hostess staff gave us free slices of pizza it was awesome!!!! And I had the Glazed Salmon it was excellent.

Do you have any vegetarian options that I would be able to choose from for the Winesday menu? I know that on your regular menu you have a butternut squash cannelloni option. Is this a possible substitution? Thanks!

      Hi Elizabeth,

Yes, you can absolutely substitute that or any other vegetarian dish for our Winesday special!

      Joe

Is it possible to consider adding a vegetarian/vegan option on the menu without having to make a special substitution request? There seems to be many inquires into this and it would be appreciated by the growing customer base that follows a plant-based diet.

Absoutely, I agree about veggie options. There are a whole lot of us out there, and very few options in my area (Acton, MA). Joes has a wide-open possibility of taking the lead here. And, obviously, offering more and more creative meat-free options is not just for veggies; most everyone will appreciate it.

      Hi Doug,

Thanks for the feedback! We’ll definitely consider expanding our vegetarian options, but in the meantime, since we’re a made from scratch kitchen our chefs are always happy to modify or create any dish for you. Never hesitate to ask!

      Best,
      Joe

It’s still running! Be sure to keep it on your radar too because the deal might just get even better in the near future.

This is a great deal! However, I would much prefer an entree salad some nights as everything on that menu is really heavy! Is a that a possible substitution?

    • Joe April 16, 2014 at 2:48 pm — Reply

      Hi Nancy,

Yes, please feel free to speak with your server about dish substitutions!

      Best,
      Joe
